General Troubleshooting Information

Before Troubleshooting
  1. Check the related fuses in the applicable fuse/relay box.
  2. Check the battery for damage, state of charge, cleanliness and secure connections. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")
  3. Check the tension of the generator belt.
  4. Make sure the connectors are clean and there are no loose wire terminals.
  5. Make sure multi-cavity connectors are filled with grease (except waterproof connectors).
  6. All connectors have push-type locks (A).
  7. Some connectors have a clip on the side used to secure them to the mounting bracket on the housing or other component. This clip has a pull-type lock.
  8. Some mounted connectors cannot be disconnected unless you first release the lock and remove the connector from the mounting bracket (A).
  9. Never try to disconnect connectors by pulling on their wires; instead, pull on the connector halves.
  10. Always reinstall plastic covers.
  11. Before connecting connectors, make sure the terminals (A) are in place and not bent.
  12. Check that the lock (A) and rubber seals (B) are not loose.
  13. The rear of some connectors is filled with grease. Add grease if necessary. If the grease (A) is contaminated, replace it.
  14. Insert the connector fully and make sure it is securely locked.
  15. Route the wires so that the open end of the cover faces downward.
  16. Secure the wires and wire harnesses to the frame with the appropriate clamps at the designated locations.
  17. Carefully remove the clips; do not damage their locks (A).
  18. Insert pliers (A) under the clip base and through the hole at an angle, then squeeze the spreader projections to release the clip.
  19. After installing the seat belt clips, make sure the seat belt does not interfere with moving parts.
  20. Keep wire harnesses away from exhaust pipes and other hot parts, sharp edges of brackets and holes, and exposed screws and bolts.
  21. Correctly install the grommets into the grooves (A). Do not leave grommets deformed (B).
  22. Do not use wires or harnesses with damaged insulation. Replace them or repair them by wrapping the break with insulating tape.
  23. After installing parts, make sure wires are not pinched under them.
  24. When using electrical test equipment, follow the manufacturer's instructions and the instructions described in this manual.
  25. If possible, insert the removal tool from the wire side (except waterproof connectors).
  26. Use a removal tool with a tapered tip.
Refer to the Wiring Repair Kit II user manual (Publication No.: 0K000 003 A05).
  27. Verify the Customer Complaint: Operate all components in the problem circuit to verify the customer complaint. Note the symptoms. Do not begin disassembly or testing until you have narrowed down the problem area.
  28. Analyze the Circuit: Find the schematic of the problem circuit. Determine how the circuit should operate by tracing the current path from the power source through the circuit components to ground. If several circuits fail at the same time, the fuse or ground is the likely cause. Based on the symptoms and your understanding of circuit operation, identify one or more possible causes of the problem.
  29. Isolate the Problem by Testing the Circuit: Perform circuit tests to check the diagnosis made in step 2. Keep in mind that a logical and simple procedure is the key to efficient troubleshooting. First check the most likely cause of failure. Try to perform tests in easily accessible locations.
  30. Repair the Problem: Once the specific problem is identified, make the repair. Be sure to use proper tools and safe procedures.
  31. Make sure the circuit works properly. Turn on all components in the repaired circuit in all modes to make sure you have eliminated the entire problem. If the problem was a blown fuse, be sure to check all circuits on the fuse. Make sure no new problems occur and the original problem does not recur.

Description

When reconnecting the battery cable after disconnecting it, recharging the battery after discharge, or installing the memory fuse located on the driver's side panel, be sure to reset the systems listed in the table below. Also, when replacing or reinstalling their fuses after removal, they must be reset in accordance with the table below. Please refer to the table below when servicing.
System Reset
Power Window Whenever the window cannot be closed or opened properly. Whenever the battery is discharged or the relevant fuse is replaced or reinstalled, reset the power window as described below.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Press the power window switch until the window glass is fully lowered, then keep pressing it for approximately 1 second.
Panoramic Roof Whenever the vehicle battery is disconnected or discharged, or the related fuse is blown, you must reset the sunroof system as follows:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and fully close the sunroof glass and sunshade.
  2. Release the control lever.
  3. Push the sunroof control lever forward in the close direction (approximately 10 seconds) until the sunroof moves slightly. Then release the lever.
  4. Push the sunroof control lever forward in the close direction until the sunroof operates in the following sequence: SUNSHADE OPEN → TILT OPEN → SLIDE OPEN → SLIDE CLOSED → SUNSHADE CLOSED. Then release the control lever. When complete, the sunroof system is reset.
Trip Computer When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the stored functions of the trip computer are initialized. Therefore, you need to explain this information to the customer.
Clock Whenever the battery terminals or related fuses are disconnected, you must reset the clock.
(Refer to Owner's Manual)
Audio When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the customer's radio stations are initialized. Therefore, record the customer's radio stations before service and set the radio stations after service in the audio system.
Heater and Air
Conditioner
When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the heater and air conditioner are initialized.
Therefore, the heater and air conditioner must be reset.
