Description

The Evaporative Emission Control System prevents fuel vapor from accumulating in the fuel tank and escaping into the atmosphere. When fuel evaporates in the fuel tank, the vapor passes through the vent hoses or tubes to the charcoal-filled canister. The canister temporarily holds the fuel vapor. If the ECM determines that the stored vapor can be drawn into the combustion chambers under certain operating conditions, it will apply vacuum to the intake manifold.
