Self-Diagnosis Using GDS: Smart key system defects can be quickly diagnosed using GDS. GDS operates the actuator quickly to monitor the input/output value and self-diagnosis. The following three functions will be a major concern in the SMART KEY system.
  1. SMART KEY Device Input Problem.
  2. SMART KEY Unit Problem.
  3. SMART KEY Device Output Problem.
  4. SMART KEY Unit Input Problem: Switch Diagnosis
  5. SMART KEY Unit Problem: Communication Diagnosis
  6. SMART KEY Unit Output Problem: Antenna and Switch Diagnosis
  7. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel, then turn on the GDS power.
  8. Select the vehicle model, then select the SMART KEY system.
  9. Select "SMART KEY Device".
  10. After turning the IG on, select "Current Data".
  11. You can check the position of each switch on the scan tool after connecting it, using the "Current Data" function.
    Display Description
FL Switch ON: The driver's door handle button is on.
FR Switch ON: The auxiliary door handle button is on.
Tailgate/Liftgate Switch ON: Tailgate/liftgate button is on.
Gear Position P ON: The shift lever is in the P position.
IGN 1 ON: The IGN switch is in the IG position.
ACC ON: The IGN switch is in the ACC position.
Push Switch ON: Push switch is on.
External Buzzer ON: Buzzer is on.
  12. Communication diagnosis checks whether each related component operates normally.
  13. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  14. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "DTC".
  15. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  16. With the ignition switched ON, select "ACTUATOR TEST".
  17. Place the smart key near the corresponding antenna and operate it using the GDS.
  18. If the smart key LED blinks, the smart key is normal.
  19. If the smart key LED does not blink, check the voltage of the smart key battery.
  20. Antenna Activation
    • INTERIOR Antenna 1
    • INTERIOR Antenna 2
    • Tailgate/Liftgate Antenna
    • BUMPER/Antenna
    • DRV_DR Antenna
    • AST_DR Antenna
  21. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  22. Select "Antenna Status Check".
  23. After turning the IG switch ON, select "Antenna Status Check".
  24. Place the smart key near the corresponding antenna and operate it using the GDS.
  25. If the Smart Key operates normally, the corresponding antenna, Smart Key (transmission, reception) and external receiver are normal.
  26. Antenna Status
    • INTERIOR Antenna 1
    • INTERIOR Antenna 2
    • Tailgate/Liftgate Antenna
    • BUMPER/Antenna
    • DRV_DR Antenna
    • AST_DR Antenna
  27. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  28. Select "Serial Link Check".
  29. With the ignition switched ON, select "Receiver Communication Line Check".
  30. Check the serial communication line using the GDS.
  31. If the smart key operates normally, the communication between the smart key unit and the external receiver is normal.
  32. If the smart key operates abnormally, check the following items.
    • Open or no response from the external receiver communication line.
    • Disconnect and ground the external receiver communication line.
  33. Place the Smart Key in the following shaded area and check whether the ignition is on.
  34. If the ignition is on, the antenna operates normally.
  35. Check the ignition mode of the internal antenna.
  36. Place the Smart Key in the following shaded area and activate the antenna. Make sure the Smart Key indicator flashes.
  37. If the smart key LED does not blink, check the antenna for shadowed areas.
  38. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  39. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "KEY FOB STATUS INFO".
  40. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  41. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "SMK STATUS INFO".
  42. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel trim, then turn on the GDS power.
  43. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "Neutralization Mode".
