Your new vehicle requires only unleaded fuel with an octane rating ((R+M)/2) of 87 (research octane number 91) or higher.

Your new vehicle is designed to deliver optimum performance with UNLEADED FUEL, which minimizes exhaust emissions and spark plug fouling.

CAUTION

Never add fuel system cleaning agents other than those specified.

(See an authorized Kia dealer for details.)

WARNING
  • Do not top off the tank after the fuel pump nozzle has automatically shut off.
  • Tighten the fuel cap until it clicks, otherwise the Assurez-vous toujours que lemalfunction indicator light will illuminate.

  • Always make sure the fuel cap is properly installed to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.

Gasoline with Ethanol or Methanol

Gasohol, a blend of gasoline and ethanol (grain alcohol), and gasoline or gasohol containing methanol (wood alcohol), are often sold alongside or as substitutes for unleaded gasoline.

Do not use gasohol with an ethanol content greater than 10%.

Do not use gasoline or gasohol containing methanol. Such fuels can cause driveability problems and damage the fuel system.

Stop using gasohol if you experience driveability problems.

Damage or driveability problems may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty if:

  1. the ethanol content of the gasohol exceeds 10%;
  2. the gasohol or gasoline contains methanol.
  3. the fuel contains lead.

"E85" is an alternative fuel composed of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. It is manufactured exclusively for flexible-fuel vehicles. "E85" is not compatible with your vehicle.

Using E85 may reduce engine performance and damage the engine and fuel system. Kia recommends that customers avoid using fuel containing more than 10 percent ethanol.

CAUTION

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover damage to the fuel system or performance problems caused by the use of E85 fuel.

CAUTION

Never use gasoline-alcohol blends containing methanol. Stop using any gasoline-alcohol blend that causes driveability problems.

Use of MTBE

We recommend avoiding fuels containing more than 15% MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) by volume (oxygen content of 2.7%).

Fuel containing more than 15% MTBE by volume (oxygen content of 2.7%) may reduce performance, cause vapor lock or make starting difficult.

CAUTION

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty may not cover damage to the fuel system or performance problems resulting from the use of fuels containing methanol or more than 15% MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) by volume (oxygen content of 2.7%).

Do not use methanol

Do not use fuels containing methanol (wood alcohol) in your vehicle. This fuel may reduce vehicle performance and damage the fuel system.

Fuel additives

Kia recommends the use of high-quality gasoline treated with detergent additives, such as TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, which helps prevent deposit build-up in the engine. These fuels help the engine run cleaner and enhance the performance of the emission control system. For more information on TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, visit the website www.toptiergas.com. Customers who do not regularly use TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline and who experience hard starting or rough engine operation may purchase detergent additives to add to the fuel.

If TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is not available, it is recommended to add one bottle of additive to the fuel tank every 12,000 km (7,500 miles) or at every oil change. You can obtain additives from your authorized Kia dealer, along with information on their use.

Do not mix different types of additives.

Driving in foreign countries

If you plan to drive your vehicle in another country, make sure to:

  • comply with all registration and insurance regulations;
  • know the type of acceptable fuel that will be available.
