If an Emergency Occurs While Driving
If the engine stalls at an intersection or crosswalk
- If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, shift the gear lever to the N (Neutral) position, then push the vehicle to a safe place.
- If your vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission and does not have an ignition switch lock, the vehicle can be started by moving the shift lever to 2nd or 3rd gear and then turning the key without depressing the clutch pedal.
If a Tire Goes Flat While Driving
If a tire goes flat while driving:
1. Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while moving straight ahead. Do not brake suddenly or attempt to steer off the road, as this may result in loss of control. When the vehicle has slowed to a speed where it is safe to do so, carefully brake and pull off the road. Move off the road as far as possible and park on firm, level ground. If you are on a divided highway, do not park in the median between the lanes of traffic.
2. When the vehicle has stopped, turn on the hazard warning flashers, apply the parking brake, and place the transmission in P (automatic transmission) or R (manual transmission).
3. Ask all passengers to exit the vehicle. Make sure they all exit on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.
4. When replacing a flat tire, follow the procedure described later in this section.
If the Engine Stalls While Driving
1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully move off the road to a safe location.
2. Turn on the hazard warning lights.
3. Try to restart the engine. If your vehicle does not start, have it inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends consulting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.
