WARNING

Loose objects

Loose objects in the driver's footwell area may interfere with pedal operation, possibly causing an accident. Do not place anything under the front seats.

WARNING

Upright seating position

When returning the seatback to the upright position, hold the seatback and return it slowly, and make sure no other occupants are near the seat. If the seatback returns without being held and controlled, it may spring forward and cause accidental injury to a person struck by the seatback.

WARNING

Driver's responsibility for passengers

Riding in a vehicle with a reclined seatback may result in serious or fatal injury in a crash. If the seat is reclined during a crash, the passenger's hips may slide under the lap part of the seat belt, applying large force to the unprotected abdomen. Serious or fatal internal injuries may result. The driver must tell passengers to keep the seatback upright at all times while the vehicle is moving.

WARNING

Do not use a seat cushion that reduces friction between the seat and the passenger. The passenger's hips may slide under the lap part of the seat belt during a crash or sudden stop. Serious or fatal internal injuries may result if the seat belt cannot work properly.

WARNING

Driver's seat

  • Never attempt to adjust the seat while the vehicle is moving. This may cause loss of control and an accident resulting in death, serious injury, or property damage.
  • Do not allow anything to interfere with the normal position of the seatback. Storing objects against the seatback or otherwise interfering with proper seatback locking may result in serious or fatal injury in a sudden stop or collision.
  • Always drive and ride with your seatback upright and the lap portion of the seat belt snug and low across your hips. This is the best position to protect you in case of an accident.
  • To avoid unnecessary and possibly serious airbag injuries, always sit as far from the steering wheel as possible while still maintaining comfortable vehicle control. We recommend that your chest be at least 250 mm (10 inches) from the steering wheel.

WARNING

Rear seatbacks

  • The rear seatback must be securely locked. Otherwise, passengers and objects may be thrown forward, resulting in serious injury or death in a sudden stop or collision.
  • Luggage and other cargo must be laid flat in the cargo area. If items are large, heavy, or must be stacked, they must be secured. Under no circumstances should cargo be stacked higher than the seatbacks. Failure to observe these warnings may result in serious injury or death in a sudden stop, collision, or rollover.
  • No passenger should ride in the cargo area or sit or lie on folded seatbacks while the vehicle is moving. All passengers must sit properly in their seats and wear seat belts correctly while riding.
  • When returning the seatback to the upright position, make sure it is securely locked by pushing it forward and backward.
  • To avoid the possibility of burns, do not remove the carpet in the cargo area. Emission control devices under this floor generate high temperatures.

WARNING

After adjusting the seat, always make sure it is securely locked in position by trying to move the seat forward or backward without using the seat adjustment lever. A sudden or unexpected movement of the driver's seat may result in loss of control of the vehicle, causing an accident.

WARNING

  • Be extremely careful to keep your hands or other objects away from the seat mechanisms while the seat is moving.
  • Do not place the cigarette lighter on the floor or seat. When operating the seat, gas may escape from the lighter and cause a fire.
  • If there are passengers seated in the rear, be careful when adjusting the position of the front seat.
  • Take extreme care when reaching for small objects that have fallen under the seats or between the seat and the center console. Your hands may be cut or injured by sharp edges of the seat mechanism.

CAUTION

Precautions for Seat Covers

  • Use caution when working on or near the seat cover. A short circuit or malfunction may occur, which may cause noise, damage to the ventilation system, and possibly fire.
  • Be careful of wires or ventilation holes when installing a seat cover or a seat cover with a plastic cover. A short circuit may occur, which may lead to fire.
