Side Airbag

Front

❈ Actual airbags in the vehicle may differ from the illustrations.
Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag for each front seat. The purpose of the side airbags is to provide the driver and/or front passenger with additional protection beyond that provided by the seat belt alone.
- Side airbags are designed to deploy in certain side impacts, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the accident. However, when the side deployment threshold is met in a frontal collision, the side airbags may deploy.
- Side airbags may deploy on the impact side or on both sides.
- Side airbags and/or curtain airbags on both sides of the vehicle deploy when a rollover or possible rollover is detected.
- The side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.
WARNING! Unexpected Deployment
Avoid striking the side airbag sensor while the ignition is ON to prevent unexpected side airbag deployment.
The side airbag is a supplement to the driver's and front passenger's seat belt systems and is not a replacement for them. Therefore, your seat belts must be worn at all times while the vehicle is in motion.
For best protection from the side airbag system and to avoid injury when the side airbag deploys, both front seat occupants should sit upright with the seat belt properly fastened. The driver's hands should rest on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 positions. The front passenger's hands and palms should rest on their lap.
WARNING - Deployment
Do not install any accessories, including seat covers, on or near the side airbags, as this may affect side airbag deployment.
If the seat or seat cover is damaged, have the vehicle inspected and repaired at an authorized Kia dealer. Inform them that your vehicle is equipped with side airbags and an occupant detection system.
WARNING - Flying Objects
Do not place any objects (umbrella, bag, etc.) between the door and the front seat. Such objects may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
WARNING! Do not attach objects
- Do not place any objects over the airbag or between the airbag and yourself. Also, do not attach any objects to the area where the airbag inflates, such as the door, side door glass, front and rear pillars.
- Do not place any objects between the door and the seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
- Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbags.
- For safety reasons, do not hang heavy objects on the coat hooks.
- Never place or insert any objects in the small opening next to the side air bag or near the labels attached to the vehicle seats. When the air bag deploys, the object may affect deployment and cause an unexpected accident or personal injury.
