Seat Belt Extension
If the seat belt is not long enough even when pulled out to its maximum length, a seat belt extension is available free of charge from an authorized Mazda dealer.
This seat belt extension is designed for a specific person, vehicle and seat.
Although this extension may attach to other seat belts, it may not be strong enough to restrain the occupant in a collision.
When ordering a seat belt extension, only order a length that allows the belt to be buckled properly. For more information, contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
WARNING
Use a seat belt extension only when absolutely necessary:
Using a seat belt extension when it is not necessary is dangerous. The seat belt will be too long and will not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protection and serious injury could result. Use the seat belt extension only if it is necessary to buckle the seat belt properly.
Do not use an inappropriate seat belt extension:
Using a seat belt extension designed for another person, vehicle or seat is dangerous. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protection and serious injury could result.
Only use a seat belt extension designed for you and for the vehicle and seat for which it was designed. NEVER use the seat belt extension in another vehicle or seat. If the Mazda vehicle is sold, do not leave the seat belt extension in the vehicle. It may be accidentally used by the new vehicle owner.
Once the seat belt extension is removed, discard it.
Never reuse the seat belt extension in another vehicle.
Do not use an extension that is too long:
Using an extension that is too long is dangerous. The seat belt will be too long and will not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protection and serious injury could result. Do not use the extension, or choose a shorter extension, if the distance between the extension buckle and the center of the user's body is less than 15 cm (6 in.).
Do not leave a seat belt extension connected to the buckle:
Leaving a seat belt extension connected to the buckle without using the seat belt is dangerous. When the seat belt extension is connected to the buckle of the driver's (or front passenger's) seat belt, the driver's (or front passenger's) SRS airbag system will determine that the driver (or front passenger) has fastened the seat belt, even if the driver (or front passenger) has not fastened it.
This could cause the driver's (or front passenger's) airbag not to deploy properly, and serious or fatal injury could result in a collision.
Always fasten the seat belt with the seat belt extension.
Do not use a seat belt extension when installing a child restraint system in the front or rear passenger seat:
Using a seat belt extension to secure a child restraint system in any seat is dangerous. Always follow the child restraint system manufacturer's installation instructions carefully, and never use a seat belt extension.
NOTE
When not in use, remove the seat belt extension and store it in the vehicle. If the seat belt extension is left connected, it may be damaged because it will not retract with the rest of the seat belt and may easily fall out of the door when not in use and become damaged. In addition, the seat belt warning light will not come on and will not function properly.
