Detach the cap at the bottom and remove it from below.

Insignia OPC: insert the screwdriver into the slot in the upper rounded part of the cap. Release the cap by carefully pressing the screwdriver downward. To avoid damage, it is recommended to place a cloth between the screwdriver and the frame.

The towing eye is located in the vehicle tool kit 230.

Screw the towing eye in as far as it will go, until it is in the horizontal position.

Attach a towing cable or, better, a tow bar to the towing eye.

The towing eye must only be used for towing and not for recovering a vehicle stuck in mud or sand.

Switch on the ignition so that the steering wheel unlocks and the brake lights, horn and front wiper can be operated.

Gearbox in neutral.

Switch on the hazard warning lights on both vehicles.

Notice

Start slowly. Do not drive in jerks. Excessive traction forces can damage the vehicles.

With the engine off, braking and steering require greater effort.

Switch on the recirculation mode and close the windows to prevent exhaust gases from the towing vehicle from entering.

Vehicles with manual transmission and all-wheel drive: If the vehicle is towed with all four wheels on the ground, there are no technical limitations on speed or distance. If only one axle is raised, the maximum speed is 50 km/h. There is no distance limitation.

Vehicles with automatic transmission and front-wheel drive: The vehicle must be towed in the direction of travel, but must not exceed a speed of 80 km/h or a distance of 100 km. Otherwise, or if the gearbox is faulty, the front axle must be raised off the ground.

Vehicles with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive: The vehicle must be towed in the direction of travel. If the vehicle is towed with all four wheels on the ground, the speed must not exceed 50 km/h and the distance must not exceed 50 km. If the front axle is raised, the maximum speed is 50 km/h. There is no distance limitation.

After towing, unscrew the towing eye.

Insert the cap from below, turn it gently clockwise and close the cap.

Insignia OPC: insert the cap with its lower flange into the housing.

Press the cap into the bumper.
