~1min read

Positioning the vehicle Stop the vehicle where it will not obstruct other drivers: the ground should be level, stable and non-slippery. Apply the parking brake, switch off the ignition and engage first gear*, to lock the wheels. Place a wheel chock against the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being changed. Make sure all passengers have left the vehicle and are in a safe area. Never go under a vehicle supported only by a jack; use a vehicle jack.
* reverse gear for a manual gearbox; P for an automatic gearbox.
