Front seat belts with pyrotechnic pretensioners and force limiters

In a severe frontal impact, the pyrotechnic pretensioner instantly tightens the belts and pulls them against the occupants' bodies.

Pyrotechnic pretensioner belts are active when the ignition is switched on.

The force limiter reduces the belt pressure on the occupant's chest in the event of an accident, thereby improving protection.

Rear seat belts

The rear seats are fitted with three belts, each with three anchor points and a retractor.

The rear outer seats are fitted with force limiters and may be equipped with a retractor with pyrotechnic pretensioner.

Before folding a seatback, pull the webbing and insert the seat belt tongue into the buckle.

This precaution ensures each seat belt remains in place when you raise the rear seatbacks.

Front seat belt latch detection

As soon as the ignition is switched on, if a front passenger has not fastened their seat belt and vehicle speed is below 20 km/h, the seat belt warning light comes on.

The light goes out when the relevant seat belt(s) is/are fastened.

If vehicle speed is above 20 km/h, the seat belt warning light flashes, an audible signal sounds and a message on the multifunction display identifies the unfastened seat belt(s).

Note: a bag or an animal placed on the front passenger seat may trigger the warning light.

The audible signal stops and the light goes out when the relevant seat belt(s) is/are fastened.

After two minutes without any action on the seat belts, the flashing warning light stays on continuously and the audible signal stops. All alerts stop when a door is opened or the engine is switched off.

The driver must make sure that passengers use their seat belts correctly and that everyone is properly belted before driving.

Whatever your seat position in the vehicle, always wear your seat belt, even for short journeys.

Do not swap the buckles, as they would not fully perform their function.

If the seats are fitted with armrests*, the lap portion of the belt must always pass under the armrest.

The seat belts are fitted with a retractor that automatically adjusts the length of the webbing to your build. The belt retracts automatically when it is not in use.

Before and after use, make sure the belt is correctly wound onto the retractor.

The lower part of the belt must be positioned as low as possible across the hips.

The upper part must be positioned in the hollow of the shoulder.

The retractors are fitted with an automatic locking device in the event of a collision, emergency braking or vehicle rollover.

You can release the device by pulling the belt sharply and then letting it go.

To be effective, a seat belt:

  • must be worn snug against the body,
  • must restrain only one adult occupant,
  • must not show any signs of cutting or fraying,
  • must be pulled out in front of you with a smooth movement, making sure it does not twist,
  • must not be modified or altered, so as not to impair its performance.

Due to current safety requirements, any work or inspection must be carried out by the PEUGEOT network, which guarantees the work and its correct execution.

Have your belts checked periodically by the PEUGEOT network, and especially if the webbing shows signs of deterioration.

Clean the belt webbing with soapy water or a textile cleaning product sold by the PEUGEOT network.

After folding down or moving a rear seat or rear bench, make sure the belt is correctly positioned and wound onto the retractor.

Recommendations for children:

  • use a suitable child seat if the passenger is under 12 years old or less than 1.50 m tall,
  • do not use the belt guide* when installing a child seat,
  • never use the same belt to restrain more than one person,
  • never carry a child on your lap.

Depending on the nature and severity of the impact, the pyrotechnic device may trigger before and independently of the airbag deployment. Activation of the pretensioners is accompanied by a slight release of harmless smoke and a noise, caused by the firing of the pyrotechnic cartridge built into the system.

In all cases, the airbag warning light comes on.

After an impact, have the seat belt system checked and, if necessary, replaced by the PEUGEOT network.
