ESP system
This system works in conjunction with and complements the ABS.
If the vehicle's actual path differs from the path intended by the driver, the ESP system monitors each wheel and automatically acts on the brake of one or more wheels and on the engine to bring the vehicle back onto the intended path, within the limits of the laws of physics.
Activating the ESP system
The indicator light comes on.
Deactivating the ESP system
In exceptional conditions (starting the vehicle when stuck, immobilised in snow, on soft ground...), it may be useful to deactivate the ESP system.
- Press the "ESP OFF" switch located on the centre console.
The switch indicator and the warning light come on: the ESP system no longer acts on engine operation.
Instrument cluster warning light.
They switch back on:
- automatically when the ignition is switched off,
- automatically from 50 km/h,
- manually by pressing the switch again.
Malfunction
If a system fault occurs, the warning light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer to have the systems checked.

The ESP system provides added safety in normal driving, but must not encourage the driver to take additional risks (late braking) or drive at excessive speeds.
The system operates correctly provided the manufacturer's recommendations are followed regarding the wheels (tyres and rims), braking components, electronic components and the fitting and servicing procedures of the PEUGEOT network.
After an impact, have these systems checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
