Engine oil level: general information, topping up, filling
An engine consumes oil to lubricate and cool moving parts, so it is normal to top up the oil between oil changes.
However, if after the running-in period oil consumption exceeds 0.5 litre per 1,000 km, consult a brand representative.
Frequency: check your oil level regularly and, in any case, before every long journey to avoid the risk of damaging your engine.
Reading the oil level
The reading must be taken on level ground and after the engine has been stopped for an extended period.
To check the exact oil level and make sure the maximum level is not exceeded (risk of engine damage), it is essential to use the dipstick. Refer to the following pages.
The dashboard display only warns when the oil level is at minimum.

Minimum oil level warning on dashboard
While the message "Functions test under control" is displayed, press button 3 or 4.
If the level is above the minimum: the message 'oil level' appears on the display, with blocks 1 which are replaced by dashes 2 as the level drops.
Note: The detailed level cannot be displayed if the previous drive was of short duration.

if the level is at minimum
The message "Oil level to be readjusted" and the warning light
come on in the instrument panel.
Top up the level as soon as possible.
The display only warns when the level is at minimum; it never warns when the maximum level is exceeded, which can only be detected by reading the dipstick.
Reading the level on the dipstick
- remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth;
- push the dipstick fully home (for vehicles fitted with a "dipstick cap" c, screw the cap fully in);
- remove the dipstick again;
- read the level: it must never drop below the "MIN" mark a or exceed the "MAX" mark b.
Once the operation is complete, make sure to push the dipstick fully home or screw the dipstick cap fully in.
Engine oil above maximum level. The level must only be read using the dipstick, as explained previously.If the maximum level is exceeded, do not start the vehicle and contact a brand representative.
Never exceed the maximum fill level B: risk of engine and catalytic converter damage. If the level drops abnormally or repeatedly, consult a brand representative. To avoid spills, we recommend using a funnel when topping up or filling the oil.
When working near the engine, it may be hot. In addition, the radiator fan may start up at any time.Risk of injury.

Topping up/filling
The vehicle must be on level ground, with the engine stopped and cold (for example: before the first start of the day).
Engine oil quality
Refer to your vehicle's maintenance document.
Do not exceed the 'max' level and remember to refit the cap 1 and the dipstick 2.
- Unscrew cap 1;
- restore the level (for information, the capacity between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the dipstick 2 is 1.5 to 2 litres depending on the engine);
- wait about 10 minutes to allow the oil to drain;
- check the level using dipstick 2 (as explained previously).
Once the level has been read, make sure to push the dipstick fully home or screw the dipstick cap fully in.
