The 2015 Sonata uses advanced high-strength steel for more than 50 percent of the total platform content, resulting in a 41 percent increase in torsional rigidity and a 35 percent increase in bending strength. Advanced high-strength steel is twice as stiff as conventional steel while weighing 10 percent less. More hot-stamped components are used, particularly in the area of the center pillar.
