Emission Control System

Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The emission control system consists of three main systems.
  • The Crankcase Emission Control System prevents crankcase gases from being released into the atmosphere. This system recirculates the gas back into the intake manifold (Closed Crankcase Ventilation).
  • The Evaporative Emission Control System prevents fuel vapor from being released into the atmosphere. This system collects the vapor in the canister and burns it in the engine under proper operating conditions.
  • The exhaust emission control system converts the three pollutants [hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx)] into harmless substances using a 3-way catalytic converter.
