Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a

Evaporator

~1min read
The liquid refrigerant evaporates in the tubes of the evaporator. The latent heat of evaporation is taken from the air streaming past the evaporator fins. The air cools. The refrigerant evaporates and is drawn into the air conditioning system compressor carrying with it the heat it has absorbed. A restrictor or an expansion valve allows a defined quantity of refrigerant to flow to the evaporator. In systems with an expansion valve, the flow is regulated such that only gaseous refrigerant exits the evaporator.
