Removal and Installation of Airbag Control Unit

GENERAL INFORMATION

CAUTION

Before removing the airbag, be sure to observe the appropriate safety precautions.

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable with the ignition switched off.

CAUTION

As a result, information stored in electronic memory modules, such as the radio code, will be erased. The radio can only be activated without a code by the manufacturer or an AUDI dealer service center. Therefore, observe the instructions in the sections Removal and Installation of Battery and Entering Radio Code.

2. Disconnect the negative (–) battery terminal to prevent accidental contact.

3. Set the wheels straight and the steering wheel to the center position.

4. Remove the two Torx screws securing the airbag control unit using a T-key.

5. Disconnect the airbag control unit connector.

6. Remove the unit and place it aside with the soft side facing up.

7. Do not change the position of the steering column (straight-ahead position of the wheels). INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Connect the airbag connector.

2. Install the airbag on the steering wheel and tighten to 7 N·m.

3. Turn the ignition on; the ignition key must be in the "Drive" position.

CAUTION

Do not leave people inside the vehicle while connecting the battery.

4. Connect the negative (–) battery ground cable.

CAUTION

Activate the power window automatic function and set the clock, referring to the sections Removal and Installation of Battery and Entering Radio Code.
