Removing and Installing Power Steering Pump
Power Steering Pump 1 – V-ribbed belt 2 – bolt, 10 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn) 3 – vibration damper. On crankshaft 4 – bolt, 25 Nm 5 – clamp 6 – alternator 7 – bracket. Bracket shown for vehicles without air conditioning. 8 – bolt, 45 Nm 9 – bolt, 25 Nm 10 – banjo bolt, 30 Nm 11 – sealing ring. Must always be replaced. 12 – hose 13 – sealing ring. Must always be replaced. 14 – vane pump 15 – bolt, 25 Nm 16 – pulley 17 – bolt, 25 Nm 18 – bolt, 25 Nm Oil specification: AUDI-G 002 000; oil capacity from 0.7 to 0.9 L.
REMOVAL
Depending on the vehicle model, the pump may be located above or below the alternator.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Ribbed Drive Belt Removal and Installation.
2. For a pump located above the alternator: Disconnect the suction hose from the intake manifold by releasing the clamps.

3. Remove the pulley from the pump, holding the central bolt from turning with a 9 mm socket wrench.
4. Disconnect the hydraulic hose from the reservoir using a suitable clamp, for example HAZET 4590/2.
5. Disconnect the hose from the reservoir on the pump by opening the clamp.
CAUTION
Wipe up leaking oil with a rag. Do not allow dirt to enter the oil circuit. Cover the connections with polyethylene and rubber caps to protect them.6. Unscrew the banjo bolt for the pressure hose on the pump.

7. Unscrew bolts –1– and –2– securing the pump to the bracket. The illustration shows a pump located above the alternator. INSTALLATION
8. Before installation, fill the pump with fresh oil. To do this, pour AUDI-G 002 000 oil into the pump suction port and turn the hub by hand until oil emerges.
9. Clean the mating surfaces and the threads of the pump.
10. Insert the pump and secure it with a torque of 25 Nm.

11. Slide the oil reservoir hose onto the pump. The longitudinal marking (A) must line up with the seam (arrow in the illustration) on the pump. Tighten the clamp. It must sit in front of the transverse marking (B).
12. Remove the clamp from the pump hose.
13. Install the banjo bolt of the pressure hose on the pump with two new seals.
14. Tighten the pulley to a torque of 25 Nm.
15. Pump in upper position: Slide the suction hose onto the intake pipe and secure it with the clamp.
16. Install the V-ribbed belt, refer to the subsection Removing and Installing V-Ribbed Belt.
