Disposing of shock absorber
GENERAL INFORMATION
To dispose of the shock absorber, first drain the oil from it. After this, the shock absorber can be disposed of as ordinary scrap metal.
CAUTION
Never pour oil from the shock absorber into household waste, as this may harm the environment. Local authorities must provide information on collection points for used oil. Gas pressure in the shock absorber is up to 25 bar. Therefore, when opening the shock absorber, cordon off the work area and always wear safety goggles. The shock absorber can be opened in two ways: by drilling or by sawing.
Drilling the shock absorber
PROCEDURE
1. Clamp the removed shock absorber vertically in a vise with the rod facing down.

2. Drill a 3 mm hole at point (A) in the outer shell of the shock absorber.
CAUTION
On gas-charged shock absorbers, gas escapes once the first wall of the tube is drilled. Maintain a safe distance. Continue drilling to the inner tube (approx. 25 mm).3. Drill another Ø 6 mm hole at point (B) so that a hole is made in the inner tube.
4. Hold the shock absorber over the container and pump out the oil by moving the piston rod in both directions through its full stroke.
5. Allow the oil to drain completely.
6. Dispose of the used oil in accordance with applicable regulations.
7. Dispose of the shock absorber as ordinary scrap metal. Cutting the shock absorber
PROCEDURE

1. Clamp the shock absorber strut in a vise.
2. Install a pipe cutter, e.g. Stahwille Express 150/3, and cut through the outer tube.
CAUTION
Gas escapes from a gas-charged shock absorber.3. Raise the piston rod. Hold the inner tube with a pipe wrench and press it down so that it remains in the outer tube while the piston rod is slowly extended.
4. Remove the piston rod from the inner tube.
5. Place the shock absorber over a container and drain the oil completely.
6. Dispose of the used oil in accordance with applicable regulations.
7. Dispose of the shock absorber as ordinary scrap metal.
