Removal and Installation of Air Filter Housing and Mass Air Flow Meter

REMOVAL

1. Remove the mass air flow meter. To do so, turn the knob on the connector (3) counterclockwise and remove it. Open the clamp at point (1) on the air hose. Use a screwdriver to open the clips (2) outward. Refer to the accompanying illustration.

2. Remove bolt (1) and pull the air filter housing slightly out of the intake connector (2) and rubber mount (3). Refer to the accompanying illustration.

3. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the auxiliary reservoir (arrows in the accompanying illustration) from the air filter housing.

Installation

Air filter for 520i, 523i, 528i models:
1 — auxiliary reservoir
2 — filter housing
3 — rubber mount
4 — intake connector
5 — clamp
6 — clip
7 — O-ring
8 — air filter element
9 — support frames

INSTALLATION
1. Install the auxiliary reservoir.
2. Insert the air filter housing with the lower rubber mount. Align the intake connector with the body fender. Tighten the bolts.
3. Insert the mass air flow meter with the O-ring and secure it with the clip.
4. Install the air hose on the intake pipe at the mass air flow meter and secure it with clamps.
5. Connect the mass air flow meter connector and turn the knob clockwise.
