Fuel Pump Relay Check

PROCEDURE
1. The fuel pump relay (2) is located on the right side of the luggage compartment, behind the trim, above the battery. See the accompanying illustration. It supplies power to the fuel pump. Through the safety switch, it cuts off the fuel supply if no engine speed pulses are received with the ignition on. If the fuel pump must run to check the injection system without starting the engine, disconnect the relay and connect terminals 30 and 87b with a short jumper wire (diesel: terminal 87). Wire diameter 1.5 mm.

* To check the fuel pump relay, the battery must be fully charged.

2. Check the injection system fuse. The fuse locations are shown on the fuse box cover.
3. Disconnect the fuel pump relay.
4. Using a short wire, connect terminals 30 and 87b (Diesel: terminal 87). Refer to the accompanying illustration. Do not damage the relay's sensitive contacts. If the pump runs, replace the relay. If the pump does not run, check the wiring to the relay and the fuel pump. Replace the wire if necessary.

5. Check the relay/fuel pump. Refer to the Relay and Relay Check sections.
