Vehicle equipment. Intelligent Emergency Call. Mobile service. Warning triangle
This page of the BMW 5 (VII generation / G30 & G31) owner's manual presents key safety and emergency functions, from the hazard warning flashers to Intelligent Emergency Call and Mobile Service. The automatic and manual emergency call is explained step by step, including LED indicators, voice connection and data transmission to the emergency call center. The page also shows how to request roadside assistance and how to correctly remove the warning triangle in an emergency. All information is aimed at maximum safety in critical situations, whether on the road or when stopped.
Vehicle equipment
This chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional equipment offered in the model series. It therefore also describes equipment that is not available in a given vehicle, for example due to the selected optional equipment or country variant. This also applies to safety-related functions and systems. When using the corresponding functions and systems, observe the applicable laws and regulations.
Hazard warning flashers

The button is located in the center console.
Intelligent Emergency Call
Principle
The system can be used to place an emergency call in emergency situations.
General
Press the SOS button only in an emergency.
Even if an emergency call via BMW is not possible, an emergency call may be placed to a public emergency number. This depends, among other things, on the respective mobile network and national regulations.
For technical reasons, an emergency call cannot be guaranteed under the most unfavorable conditions.
Overview

SOS button in the headliner.
Prerequisites for operation
- Vehicle-integrated SIM card is activated.
- Standby mode is switched on.
- Emergency call system is operational.
Automatic emergency call triggering
Under certain conditions, e.g. deployment of the airbags, an emergency call is triggered automatically immediately after a severe accident.
The automatic emergency call is not affected by pressing the SOS button.
Manually triggering an emergency call
- Tap the cover flap.
- Press and hold the SOS button until the LED on the microphone lights up green.
- The LED lights up green when the emergency call has been triggered.
If a cancellation prompt appears on the Control Display, the emergency call can be canceled.
If the situation permits, remain in the vehicle until the voice connection is established.
Mobile Service
Standby
Mobile Service can be reached by telephone around the clock in many countries. In the event of a breakdown, support is available there.
Roadside assistance
For roadside assistance, the telephone number can be displayed via iDrive, or a connection to Mobile Service can be established directly.
Warning triangle

The warning triangle is located on the inside of the tailgate.
Press the release, arrow 1, and swivel the cover downward, arrow 2.
Modern road safety also means being prepared for emergencies. The Intelligent Emergency Call in the BMW 5 Touring (model years 2017–2024) is a system that automatically alerts help in the event of severe accidents, a decisive contribution to the chain of rescue. The warning triangle in the tailgate and Mobile Service also complement the safety concept in a useful way.
Particularly helpful is the clear explanation of how to operate the SOS button and of the LED signals that indicate the status of the emergency call. The integration of the emergency call function into the vehicle architecture ensures that technology and function work together seamlessly.
The BMW 5 Series type G31 shows that safety means more than passive protection systems. It begins with intelligent technology and ends with well-thought-out details.
