Wheel replacement
Your vehicle is equipped as standard with run-flat tires. If such a tire is damaged, there is no need for an immediate wheel replacement.
For driving on a flat tire, see Flat tire message.
Run-flat tires can be identified by the round RSC symbol on the sidewall, see
Run-flat tires.
When replacing tires or switching between summer and winter tires, fit only run-flat tires to the vehicle, as this model has no spare wheel. A BMW service center will be happy to advise you on this.
See also New wheels and tires.
To avoid impairing vehicle handling, do not move front wheels to the rear axle or vice versa.◄
Suitable wheel change tools are available from a BMW service center.◄
Jacking points

The jacking points are located at the indicated positions.
Compact spare wheel
Safety measures in case of tire damage and wheel change:
Park the vehicle on a firm surface as far away from traffic as possible. Switch on the hazard warning lights.
Apply the parking brake and shift the transmission to P.
Ask all passengers to get out and move them away from the danger zone (for example, behind the guardrail of the road).
If necessary, place a warning triangle or hazard warning lamp at an appropriate distance. Observe the laws of the country you are in.
Change the wheel only on a level, firm, and non-slip surface.
On a soft or slippery surface (snow, ice, ceramic tile, etc.) the vehicle or jack may slip sideways.
Position the jack on a firm surface.
Do not place anything under the jack, since insufficient height reduces its load capacity.
When the vehicle is raised, do not get under it or start the engine. This is dangerous to life.◄
Required Tools
To prevent the tools from rattling while driving, store and secure them correctly in their original place after each use.
The tools are located in the holder under the luggage compartment floor cover.

1 Jack
2 Crank handle
3 Wheel wrench
Removing the Compact Spare Wheel
The compact spare wheel is located in the luggage compartment under the floor cover.

1. Remove the tool tray.
2. Unscrew wing nut 1.
3. Remove washer 2 by sliding it to the side.
4. Remove the wheel.
Preparing to Change the Wheel
1. Observe the safety instructions above.
2. Loosen the wheel bolts by half a turn.
Raising the Vehicle
1. Position the jack under the lifting point nearest to the wheel. The jack base must be directly under the lifting point and rest fully on the ground.
Use the jack only for changing wheels. Do not use it to lift other vehicles or any loads: risk of property damage and injury.◄

2. Turn the crank handle to engage the jack head in the rectangular recess of the lifting point, see the callout in the illustration.

3. Turn the handle to raise the vehicle until the wheel is off the ground.
Installing the Wheel
1. Unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.
2. Clean dirt from the wheel hub and wheel bolts.
3. Install the wheel (standard spare or compact spare) and thread in at least two diagonally opposite bolts.
When installing non-BMW alloy wheels, use the wheel bolts supplied with them.
4. Thread in the remaining bolts and tighten all bolts securely in a crisscross sequence.
5. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack.
After Installation
1. Tighten all wheel bolts in a crisscross sequence.
For safety, have the wheel bolt torque checked with a calibrated torque wrench at an authorized service center at the first opportunity.
Improperly tightened wheel bolts create a safety hazard. Tightening torque is 140 N·m.◄
2. Place the damaged wheel in the luggage compartment.
The standard wheel does not fit into the recess provided for the compact spare wheel.◄
3. At the first opportunity, check the tire air pressure and bring it to the specified value.
To protect the valve from dirt, screw on the valve cap.
A contaminated valve often causes a gradual loss of air.◄ 4. Initialize the tire pressure monitor indicator.
5. Replace the damaged tire and balance the wheel as soon as possible.
Driving on the compact spare wheel
Drive without sudden maneuvers and do not exceed a speed of 80 km/h. The vehicle's handling characteristics may change: braking is less effective, braking distance increases, and the vehicle's cornering behavior in critical conditions changes. These changes are even more noticeable in combination with winter tires.◄
Only one compact spare wheel may be installed on the vehicle. For safety reasons, do not use the compact spare wheel for an extended period.
Switch to a standard wheel as soon as possible.◄
Locking wheel bolt

1 Locking wheel bolt
2 Adapter (in the recess under the luggage compartment floor)
Removal
1. Place adapter 2 onto the locking wheel bolt.
2. Unscrew locking wheel bolt 1.
After threading in the bolt, remove the adapter.
If the adapter is lost, contact a BMW service center.◄
