Towing a Trailer

~1min read

Observe the maximum speed limit in the country you are driving in, and in any case do not exceed 80 km/h. Excessive speed may cause the vehicle combination to lose stability.◄

Stabilizing the Vehicle Combination

If the trailer begins to sway, the entire vehicle combination can only be stabilized by immediate strong braking. Avoid steering inputs unless absolutely necessary. If steering becomes necessary, act with extreme caution so as not to endanger other road users.

Driving Uphill

For safety reasons and to avoid disrupting traffic flow, the maximum gradient when driving with a trailer is limited to 12 %. With the increased permissible trailer load, this limit is 8 %.

Driving Downhill

On downhill grades the trailer’s tendency to sway increases, so the driver must pay particular attention.

Before starting the descent, shift to a low gear, down to first, and descend slowly and carefully.
