Tire Damage Message
The red warning lamp lights up, a message appears on the Control Display, and a gong sounds: a tyre puncture or excessive pressure loss in one of the tyres.
1. Reduce speed and stop in a safe place, avoiding sudden steering or braking.
2. Determine which wheel is damaged.
If you cannot determine which wheel is damaged, contact a BMW service center.◄
3. Replace the damaged wheel, see "Changing a wheel".
Vehicles with run-flat tyres
1. Carefully reduce speed to 80 km/h, avoiding sudden steering or braking.
Do not exceed a speed of 80 km/h afterwards.
If the vehicle is not fitted with run-flat tyres, driving on a deflated tyre may result in a serious accident.◄
2. At the first opportunity, check the air pressure in all four tires.
If the pressure in all tyres is normal, a false alarm may be caused by the tyre damage indicator not having been initialized.
Initialize the system.◄
3. The permissible driving distance with a completely deflated or visibly damaged tyre can be determined using the diagram below.
► Low load (1–2 persons and empty luggage compartment): approx. 250 km.
► Medium load (2 persons and full luggage compartment, or 4 persons without luggage): approx. 150 km.
► Full load (4 or more persons and a full luggage compartment): approx. 50 km.
Drive without sudden maneuvers and do not exceed a speed of 80 km/h.
With deflated tyres, the vehicle's dynamic characteristics change. Braking stability deteriorates, braking distance increases and the vehicle's handling changes.
Unusual vibrations while driving may indicate that the damaged tyre is about to fail completely.
Reduce speed and stop in a safe place. Further driving is not permitted. Contact a BMW service center.◄
