Towing the Vehicle

The ignition key must be in position 1, otherwise the steering may lock and the vehicle becomes uncontrollable. With the engine off, the power assist does not work. Therefore, greater force is required for braking and steering. The active steering system does not work, so turn the steering wheel through a larger angle than usual.◄

Switch on the hazard warning lights (observing the regulations of the country you are in).

If the electrical system fails, make the towed vehicle conspicuous, for example with a warning sign or a warning triangle on the rear window.

Vehicles with manual transmission

Place the gear shift lever in neutral.

Vehicles with automatic transmission

Move the selector lever to position N.

To avoid damage to the automatic transmission, do not exceed the maximum towing speed and distance (70 km/h and 150 km respectively).◄

Vehicles with SMG transmission

With the ignition on, move the selector lever to position N, then switch off the ignition.
