The indicator lights up when the ignition is switched on and goes out shortly after the engine starts.

Caution This indicator signals that a problem requiring attention has occurred in the vehicle. Driving with the check engine indicator on or flashing may damage the emission control system and affect fuel economy and vehicle drivability.

It is recommended to have this done by an authorized service center.
