Stability control systems

~2min read

Traction control (ASR) and electronic stability control (ESP)

Traction control optimises grip by preventing wheel spin, acting on the brakes of the driven wheels and on the engine.

Electronic stability control acts on the brake of one or more wheels and on the engine to keep the vehicle on the path intended by the driver, within the limits of the laws of physics.

Activation

These systems are automatically activated each time the vehicle starts.

In the event of a grip or trajectory problem, these systems come into operation.

Deactivation

In exceptional conditions (starting the vehicle when stuck, immobilised in snow, on soft ground, etc.), if you cannot move your vehicle, it may be useful to temporarily deactivate these systems so the wheels can spin freely and allow the vehicle to move forward.

Have the system checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

Stability control systems provide added safety in normal driving, but must not encourage the driver to take additional risks or drive at excessive speeds.

These systems operate correctly provided the manufacturer's recommendations are followed for: - the wheels (tyres and rims),
- the braking components,
- the electronic components,
- the fitting and servicing procedures.

After an impact, have these systems checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
