Electronic stability control (ESP)

~1min read

Anti-slip regulation (ASR) and dynamic stability control (CDS)

Anti-slip regulation improves traction by preventing wheel spin, controlling the brakes of the driven wheels and the engine.

Dynamic stability control applies the brake of one or more wheels to keep the vehicle on the course desired by the driver, within the limits of the laws of physics.

Activation

The systems switch on automatically each time the engine is started.

The systems come into operation when traction is lost or the vehicle deviates unintentionally from its course.

This is indicated by the flashing
warning light in the instrument panel.

Deactivation

Wyłączenie

In extreme conditions (deep snow, mud, etc.), if repeated attempts to pull away are unsuccessful, it may be helpful to deactivate the systems so that the wheels can spin and regain grip.

  • Press this button located on the left-hand side of the steering wheel.

Illumination of the button warning light indicates that the systems are deactivated.

Reactivation

The systems reactivate automatically each time the ignition is switched off or when the speed exceeds 50 km/h (except for 1.6 l petrol engines (THP 165, THP 155, THP 150) and GT RACING).

  • To manually reactivate the systems, press this button again.

Operating fault

Illumination of this warning light in the instrument panel and of the button warning light, accompanied by an audible signal and a message, indicates a malfunction of the systems.

Have the system checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

The CDS/ASR systems increase safety during normal driving, but they must not encourage the driver to take additional risks or to drive at excessive speed. Correct operation of the systems is ensured provided the manufacturer's recommendations regarding the following are observed:
  • wheels (tyres and rims),
  • brake system components,
  • electronic components and assemblies,
  • fitting and repair procedures.

After a collision, have these systems checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
