Braking assistance systems

~1min read

Additional systems that help you brake safely and effectively in hazardous situations:

  • anti-lock braking system (ABS),
  • electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD),
  • emergency brake assist (EBA).

Anti-lock braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution

These systems work together to improve the stability and steerability of the vehicle during braking, particularly on poor or slippery road surfaces.

Activation

The anti-lock braking system activates automatically when there is a risk of the wheels locking.

Normal operation of the ABS is indicated by slight vibrations of the brake pedal.

In an emergency braking situation, press the brake pedal very firmly and do not reduce the pressure on it even for a moment.

Malfunction

Illumination of this warning light,
together with the accompanying audible signal and message on the screen, indicates a malfunction of the anti-lock braking system, which may result in loss of control of the vehicle when braking.

Illumination of this warning light,
together with the STOP and ABS warning lights, and the accompanying audible signal and message on the screen, indicates a malfunction of the electronic brakeforce distribution, which may result in loss of control of the vehicle when braking.

Stop the vehicle immediately, taking all necessary safety precautions.

In both cases, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

When changing wheels (tyres and rims), make sure they comply with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Emergency brake assist

In an emergency, this system allows the optimum brake pressure to be reached more quickly, thereby shortening the braking distance.

Activation

The system activates when the brake pedal is pressed quickly.

It reduces pedal resistance and increases braking effectiveness.

In an emergency braking situation, press and hold the brake pedal down very firmly.
