Child safety

Child seat recommendations

~2min read
Incorrect installation of a child seat in the vehicle does not guarantee the child's safety in the event of a collision. Check that there is no seat belt or seat belt buckle under the child seat, as this may destabilise the seat. Fasten the seat belts or the child seat harnesses, keeping slack against the child's body to a minimum, even for short journeys. When installing a child seat secured with the seat belt, check that the belt is tight on the child seat and that it firmly holds the child seat on the vehicle seat. If the front passenger seat is adjustable, move it forward if necessary. On the rear seats, always leave enough space between the front seat and:
  • a "rear-facing" child seat,
  • the feet of a child seated in a "forward-facing" child seat.

To do this, move the front seat forward and, if necessary, also straighten its backrest.

To optimally install a "forward-facing" child seat, make sure the seat back is as close as possible to the vehicle seat back, and even touching it if possible. The head restraint must be removed before installing a forward-facing child seat on the front passenger seat. If the head restraint is removed, store it or secure it so that it does not pose a hazard in the event of sudden braking. Refit the head restraint after removing the child seat. Children on front seats Regulations on carrying children in the front passenger seat vary from country to country. Consult the regulations in force in your country. The front passenger airbag must be deactivated when a "rear-facing" child seat is installed on the front seat. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or even death to the child if the airbag deploys. Installing a booster seat The shoulder portion of the seat belt should rest on the child's shoulder, without touching the neck. Make sure the lap portion of the seat belt rests on the child's thighs. CITROËN recommends using booster seats with a backrest, equipped with a belt guide at shoulder level. To ensure safety, never leave:
  • a child/children unattended in the vehicle,
  • a child or an animal in the vehicle in the sun with the windows closed,
  • keys within reach of children inside the vehicle.
To prevent the rear doors and windows from being opened accidentally, use the "Child safety lock" device. Make sure rear windows are not opened by more than one third. To protect younger children from the sun, fit the side windows with sunshades.
