Protection Against Environmental Agents
Body care requirements vary depending on geographic location and use. Chemicals that make roads passable in snow and ice, and those sprayed on trees and road surfaces in other seasons, severely corrode the metal of your vehicle. Outdoor parking that exposes your vehicle to airborne pollutants, the road surface on which the vehicle is operated, extremely hot or cold weather, and other extreme conditions will adversely affect the paint, metal finish and underbody protection.
The following maintenance recommendations will help you get the maximum benefit from the corrosion resistance built into your vehicle.
What Causes Corrosion?
Corrosion occurs as a result of wear or removal of the paint and protective coatings from your vehicle.
The most common causes are:
- Accumulation of road salt, dirt and moisture.
- Impact from stones and gravel.
- Insects, tree sap and resin.
- Salt in the air near coastal areas.
- Atmospheric precipitation/industrial pollutants.
