Wheel and Wheel Cover Care

~2min read

All wheels and wheel covers, especially aluminum and chrome, should be cleaned regularly using a mild (neutral pH) soap and water to preserve their luster and prevent corrosion. Wash the wheels with the same soap solution recommended for the vehicle body, and always wash when the surfaces are not hot to the touch.

Your wheels are subject to wear caused by salt, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, and other road chemicals used to melt ice or control dust on unpaved roads. Use a soft cloth or sponge and mild soap to wipe off these deposits promptly. Do not use harsh chemicals or a stiff brush. They can damage the protective coating on the wheels that protects them from corrosion and tarnishing.

Use caution when cleaning extremely dirty wheels, including excessive brake dust. Consider the chemicals and equipment used for cleaning tires and wheels to prevent wheel damage. Use Mopar® Wheel Treatment or Mopar® Chrome Cleaner, or an equivalent, or select a non-abrasive, non-acidic cleaner for aluminum or chrome wheels.

NOTE:

If you plan to park or store your vehicle for an extended period after cleaning the wheels with a wheel cleaner, drive your vehicle and apply the brakes to remove water droplets from the brake components. This action will remove red rust from the brake rotors and prevent brake vibration.
