PINPOINT TEST HD: MISFIRE DETECTION MONITOR
Introduction

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

Refer to DTC Fault Trigger Conditions.

Clearing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the PCM erases all PCM recorded freeze frame data. Be sure to record any PCM freeze frame information before continuing.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Trouble Code Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P0300:00 Random Misfire Detected: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects misfires in multiple engine cylinders or when the PCM cannot determine which cylinder is misfiring.
PCM P0301:00 Misfire Detected in Cylinder 1: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects misfires in cylinder 1. A misfire is defined as a lack of combustion in the cylinder due to a lack of spark, incorrect fuel delivery, low compression, or any other cause. The MIL flashes once per second when the misfire is severe enough to cause catalyst damage. If the MIL is steady due to misfire, this indicates the emissions threshold has been exceeded.
PCM P0302:00 Misfire Detected in Cylinder 2: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects misfires in cylinder 2.
PCM P0303:00 Misfire Detected in Cylinder 3: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects misfires in cylinder 3.
PCM P0313:00 Misfire Detected with Low Fuel Level: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects an engine misfire error at low fuel level. Before diagnosing engine misfire DTCs, make sure the fuel level is above 1/8.

PINPOINT TEST JF: INTERNAL IGNITION COIL FAULT ON IGNITION COILS A THROUGH J
Introduction

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

Refer to DTC Fault Trigger Conditions.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Trouble Code Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P0351:00 Ignition Coil "A" Primary Circuit Control/Open: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects an invalid ignition monitor (IGM) signal from the PCM ignition module. DTC P0351 is set only for a primary ignition coil circuit fault. A secondary ignition coil or spark plug fault does not cause DTC P0351 to set. DTC P0351 does not indicate a primary coil circuit fault. DTC P0351 may or may not set with DTC P0301, but DTC P0351 sets first. When this DTC is set, the PCM enters Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) and disables the fuel injector for the affected cylinder to protect the catalytic converter. This is normal operation. Do not attempt to diagnose the fuel injector while this DTC is present. When the primary winding is damaged by a short to ground in the harness, the PCM is not damaged. Do not replace the PCM without checking the ignition coil driver functionality. Use a 12V test lamp (non-powered) to check for battery voltage (VPWR) at the ignition coil harness connector.
PCM P0352:00 Ignition Coil "B" Primary Circuit Control/Open: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects an invalid ignition monitor (IGM) signal from the PCM ignition module. DTC P0352 is set only for a primary ignition coil circuit fault. A secondary ignition coil or spark plug fault does not cause DTC P0352 to set. DTC P0302 does not indicate a primary coil circuit fault. DTC P0352 may or may not set with DTC P0302, but DTC P0352 sets first.
PCM P0353:00 Ignition Coil "C" Primary Circuit Control/Open: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects an invalid ignition monitor (IGM) signal from the PCM ignition module. DTC P0353 is set only for a primary ignition coil circuit fault. A secondary ignition coil or spark plug fault does not cause DTC P0353 to set. DTC P0303 does not indicate a primary coil circuit fault. DTC P0353 may or may not set with DTC P0303, but DTC P0353 sets first.
PCM P06D1:00 Internal Control Module Ignition Coil Control Module Characteristics: no subtype information Set when the PCM detects an ignition coil driver and diagnostic circuit fault. Check for other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and diagnose them first. Check for Production Product Support (PPS) bulletins. If an updated calibration is available, update the calibration to the latest level. If an updated calibration is not available, clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test.
