    • Special Tool(s): Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402. Perform the following preliminary setup steps:
    1. Inspect the U-joint for correct operation.
    1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, such as a drive-on lift, or on a front alignment rack.
    1. Calibrate the Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor by placing it on a clean, level section of the frame rail and pressing the ALT-ZERO button.
  1. Calibrate the Anglemaster by placing it on the bottom of the transfer case and pressing the ALT-ZERO button.
    • Special Tool(s): Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402.
  2. Measure the angle of the front tube of the rear driveshaft. The measured angle will be the front joint operating angle.

  3. Calibrate the Anglemaster by placing it on a clean, level surface of the front tube of the rear driveshaft and press the ALT-ZERO button.
    • Special Tool(s): Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402.
  4. Measure the angle of the rear tube of the rear driveshaft. The measured angle will be the center joint operating angle.
    • Special Tool(s): Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402.
  5. Calibrate the Anglemaster by placing it on a clean, flat locator surface on the left side of the drive axle and press the ALT-ZERO button.
    • Special Tool(s): Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402.
  6. Measure the angle of the rear propeller shaft tube. The measured angle will be the working angle of the rear universal joint.
    • Special Tool(s): Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402.
  7. Special Service Tool(s): Anglemaster II Inclinometer/Protractor 164-R2402. Measure the inclination of the components in front of and behind the propeller shaft center support bearing at the area indicated. Record the front component as Angle A and the rear component as Angle B.
  8. Calculate the difference in component angles to determine the universal joint working angle.
    • The universal joint working angle is the angle formed by the two yokes connected by the cross and bearing kit. Ideally, the working angles at each propeller shaft joint should:
    1. be equal to or within one degree of each other.
    1. have a maximum working angle of 3 degrees.
    1. have at least one-half degree of continuous working angle.
  9. If the angle does not meet specification, repair or adjust to obtain the correct angle. Inspect the engine mounts, transmission mounts, center support bearing cushion, rear suspension, rear axle, rear axle mount or frame for wear or damage.
