Removal

Remove the headliner.
Refer to: Headliner (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

Disable the SRS.
Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Disabling (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, General Procedures).

Disconnect the side curtain air bag electrical connector.

Remove the nuts and the side curtain airbag bolt.
Torque: 80 lb-in (9 N·m)

Remove the nuts and the side curtain airbag bolt.
Torque: 80 lb-in (9 N·m)

1. Disconnect the front side curtain airbag strap clip.
1. Disconnect the side curtain airbag stud retainer.
1. Disconnect the side curtain airbag brackets from the studs.

Disconnect the side curtain airbag brackets from the studs.

Remove the side curtain airbag.
1. Disconnect the side curtain airbag T-tab from the metal panel.
1. Slide the side curtain airbag forward, releasing the retainer from the metal panel.

Installation

Warning

Incorrect repair methods or actions may cause accidental deployment of the supplemental restraint system. Make sure the passive restraint system is de-energized before reconnecting any component. Refer to the General Procedure for Supplemental Restraint System Disabling in Section 501-20B. Failure to follow the power disabling instructions exactly may result in serious injury from accidental deployment.

Before installing the Safety Canopy® or side curtain airbag module, inspect the roof rail for damage. If necessary, the sheet metal must be restored to its original condition and structural integrity. Install new fasteners if damaged, and remove foreign objects. Failure to follow these instructions may result in improper deployment of the Safety Canopy® or side curtain airbag, increasing the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

Every time the side curtain airbag deploys, a new headliner and new upper roof pillar trim panels with fasteners must be installed. Make sure the word AIRBAG is present in the header where it meets each center roof pillar trim panel. Remove other damaged components or equipment and replace them with new parts. Failure to follow these instructions may result in improper deployment of the side curtain airbag and increases the risk of serious injury or death in a crash.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Reset the SRS.
