Active Grille Shutter - Overview. Description and Operation
Overview
The Active Grille Shutter System (if equipped) consists of the grille shutter assembly and the grille shutter actuator. The Active Grille Shutter System is primarily used to maximize fuel economy by reducing the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle. The Active Grille Shutter System is also used to reduce engine warm-up time, improve engine efficiency and provide timely heat to the vehicle occupants. The grille shutter actuator receives position commands from the PCM. The Active Grille Shutter System performs a calibration sequence at every engine start, fully opening and closing the shutters before moving to the programmed position requested by the PCM.
PCM inputs/outputs that may be used to control the grille shutters:
- ECT Sensor
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor
- A/C Pressure Sensor
- Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
- HS-CAN ABS Module
- ambient air temperature sensor
- turbocharger temperature sensor
- intake manifold boost temperature sensor
- transmission fluid temperature sensor
- Engine cooling fan motor
- Engine oil temperature
