General information
WARNING
Driving while distracted can lead to loss of vehicle control, accidents and injury. We strongly recommend that you exercise the utmost care when using any device that may take your attention away from the road. Driving your vehicle safely is your first responsibility.
We advise against using portable devices while driving and recommend using voice control systems where possible. Make sure you are aware of all applicable laws that may affect the use of electronic devices while driving.
Note: An occasional noise from the brakes is normal. If it is a metal-on-metal noise, a continuous squeal or a continuous high-pitched screech, the brake pads may be worn. If the steering wheel vibrates or shakes continuously when braking, your vehicle must be checked by an authorized dealer. Note: Brake dust can build up on the wheels, even under normal driving conditions. Some dust is unavoidable as the brakes wear. See Cleaning alloy wheels (page 256). Note: Depending on the laws and regulations in force in the country where your vehicle was produced, the brake lights may flash during emergency braking.
In addition, the hazard warning lights may also flash when your vehicle stops.
When the brakes are wet, braking efficiency is reduced. After leaving a car wash or after driving through standing water, apply the brake pedal several times with light pressure to dry the brakes.
Brake assist
Brake assist detects emergency braking by measuring how quickly you press the brake pedal. It provides optimum braking power for as long as you keep pressure on the pedal.
Brake assist can reduce stopping distances in critical situations.
Anti-lock braking system
By preventing the wheels from locking, this system helps you keep control of steering and therefore maintain vehicle stability during emergency braking.
