Transmission
Automatic Transmission
WARNINGS
- Always fully apply the parking brake and make sure the gear selector is in the park position (P).
Explanation of automatic transmission positions
To engage a gear or leave a gear:

- Fully depress the brake pedal.
- Place the gear selector in the desired gear
- Bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
- Move the gear selector and lock it in the park position (P).
Park (P)
This position locks the transmission and prevents the wheels from turning.
Reverse (R)
When the gear selector is in reverse (R), the vehicle moves backwards. Always make sure the vehicle is completely stopped before leaving or engaging reverse (R).
Neutral (N)
When the gear selector is in neutral (N), you can start the vehicle, which will then be freewheeling. Keep the brake pedal pressed when in this position.
Note: do not leave your vehicle in neutral (N) for a long period with the ignition on. This may drain the high-voltage battery and cause starting problems.
Drive (D)
Drive (D) is the normal driving position and optimises fuel consumption.
The overdrive function allows automatic upshifts and downshifts across all forward gears.
Hill descent assist

To activate
hill descent assist, press the corresponding button on the gear selector. The hill descent assist indicator illuminates on the instrument display.
Hill descent assist function:
- Provides additional braking on descents by combining engine drag and high-voltage battery charging, to help the vehicle maintain its speed downhill.
- When the vehicle determines the required level of engine drag and high-voltage battery charging, engine speed may increase and/or decrease to help maintain vehicle speed downhill.
To deactivate hill descent assist, press the corresponding button on the gear selector while the function is active. The hill descent assist indicator turns off.
Low gear (L)
- This gear provides maximum engine braking.
- The transmission can be shifted into low gear (L) at any vehicle speed.
- This report is not intended for use under normal driving conditions or for prolonged use; it limits the fuel economy achieved.
Gearshift lever interlock
WARNINGS
- Do not drive the vehicle without making sure that the brake lights are working.
- During this procedure, the vehicle leaves the park position, which means it is free-rolling.
Note: Consult your authorized dealer as soon as possible if you have to follow this procedure. Note: In some countries, this feature may be disabled.
Use the gearshift lever interlock to move the gear selector out of the park position in the event of an electrical fault or if the battery is discharged.
Apply the parking brake and switch off the ignition before following this procedure.

- Remove the side panel to the right of the gear selector.

- Locate the access hole.

- Insert a flat-bladed screwdriver (or similar tool) into the access hole and push the lever forward while moving the gear selector from park (P) to neutral (N).
- Remove the tool and refit the panel.
- Start the vehicle and release the parking brake.
If your vehicle is stuck in mud or snow
Note: Do not rock the vehicle back and forth if the engine is not at normal operating temperature, as this may damage the transmission. Note: Do not rock the vehicle back and forth for more than one minute, as this may damage the transmission and tires or cause the engine to overheat.
If your vehicle is stuck in mud or snow, you can free it by alternating between forward and reverse gears, pausing regularly between each change.
Gently press the accelerator for each gear.
