Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Brake Assist System
Brake Assist
The Brake Assist feature is designed to help the driver stop or slow the vehicle in emergency conditions. This feature uses the Electronic Brake Control Module to supplement the power brake system under conditions where the driver quickly and firmly applies the brake pedal in an attempt to stop or slow the vehicle quickly. The Electronic Brake Control Module increases brake pressure at each corner of the vehicle until ABS activates. A slight pulsation of the brake pedal or pedal movement at this time is normal, and the driver should continue to press the brake pedal as long as the traffic situation requires. The Brake Assist feature will automatically turn off when the brake pedal is released or the pedal pressure is quickly reduced.
Hill Start Assist (HSA) System
This vehicle has a Hill Start Assist (HSA) system that can be helpful when stopping on a hill steep enough to activate HSA. This feature is designed to help prevent the vehicle from rolling backward or forward while moving away from a stop on a hill. After the driver fully stops the vehicle and holds it stationary on a grade, HSA will automatically activate. During the transition period between when the driver releases the brake pedal and begins to accelerate away on the incline, HSA holds brake pressure for up to two seconds to ensure there is no rollback. The brakes automatically release when the accelerator pedal is applied within the two-second window. It does not activate if the vehicle is in a forward gear and facing downhill, or if the vehicle is facing uphill and in R (Reverse). To change the duration, see "Enhanced Hill Start Assist" under Vehicle Personalization.
