Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) (for some vehicle versions)

~1min read

Your vehicle is equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF), which reduces particulate matter in the exhaust gas. The filter is integrated into the catalytic converter.

Particulate matter accumulated in the filter is periodically burned off, which cleans the filter. To do this, the temperature in the catalytic converter must be raised while the vehicle is being driven. As the particulate matter burns off, you may notice some changes in the instrument readings.

You may also see white smoke in the exhaust gas. The average fuel consumption values shown on the multi-information display may temporarily increase.

The DPF system does not require regular maintenance. If you drive the vehicle mostly at low speeds for extended periods, soot will accumulate in the filter and the filter will need to regenerate. The condition of the accumulated particulate matter depends on the diesel fuel used. Always use only the fuel recommended in this manual (see page 299).
