Checking the Engine Oil Level

1. Observe all oil manufacturer precautions.

2. Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface in P (Park) with the parking brake set. If possible, block the wheels.

3. Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature.

4. Turn off the engine and wait about five minutes for the oil to return to the oil pan.

5. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, and fully reinsert it.

6. Pull out the dipstick again and check the level. The level should be between the F and L marks.

7. If the level is near L, add enough oil to bring the level up to F.

NOTICE

To avoid engine damage:

  • Do not overfill the engine oil. Add oil in small amounts and recheck the level so the engine is not overfilled.
  • Do not spill engine oil when adding or changing engine oil. Use a funnel to prevent oil from contacting engine components. Wipe up spilled oil immediately.
