Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the mode control actuator connector.
  3. Make sure the mode control actuator moves to the defrost position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and ground terminal 4. Make sure the mode control actuator moves to the vent position when the connections are reversed.

    3 Vent Position
    4 Sensor (+5V)
    5 Feedback Signal
    6 Sensor Ground
    7 Defrost Mode
  4. Connect the mode control actuator connector.
  5. Turn the ignition on.
  6. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 5.
  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, check the operation by replacing the existing mode control actuator with a new genuine part. Then determine whether replacement of the temperature control actuator is required or not.

Diagnosis Using GDS

  1. The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system can quickly diagnose faulty parts using the Global Diagnostic System (GDS).
The Diagnostic System (GDS) provides the following information. (1) Self-diagnosis: Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and display. (2) Current data: Check the input/output status of the system. (3) Actuation test: Check the operating status of the system. (4) Additional functions: Other controls such as system option and zero point adjustment.
  2. Select "Vehicle Model" and the system to be checked to inspect the vehicle with the tester.
  3. Select the "CURRENT DATA" menu to check the current input/output status. The input/output data for the sensors related to the mode control actuator can be checked.
  4. To perform a forced operation of the mode control actuator input factors, select "ACTUATION TEST".

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the driver airbag module assembly. (Refer to Body - "Driver Airbag Module Assembly")
  3. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the mode control actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
