Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the auto defog actuator connector.
  3. Check that the defogger actuator operates to the open position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and terminal 4 is grounded. Check that the defogger actuator operates to the closed position when the connections are reversed.

  4. Connect the defogger actuator connector.
  5. Turn the ignition on.
  6. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 5.
  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, check the operation by replacing the existing defogger actuator with a new genuine part. Then determine whether replacement of the defogger actuator is required or not.

Diagnosis Using GDS

  1. The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system can quickly diagnose faulty parts using the Global Diagnostic System (GDS).
The Diagnostic System (GDS) provides the following information. (1) Self-diagnosis: Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and display. (2) Current data: Check the input/output status of the system. (3) Actuation test: Check the operating status of the system. (4) Additional functions: Other controls such as system option and zero point adjustment.
  2. Select "Vehicle Model" and the system to be checked to inspect the vehicle with the tester.
  3. Select the "Current Data" menu to check the current status of the input/output data. The input/output data for the sensors related to the defogger actuator can be checked.
  4. To perform a forced operation based on the input factors of the defogger actuator, select "ACTUATION TEST".

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the driver airbag module assembly. (Refer to Body - "Driver Airbag Module Assembly")
  3. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the defogger actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
