Self-Diagnosis Using Scan Tool. The GDS can quickly diagnose SMART KEY system faults. The GDS can forcibly control actuators, perform input/output value monitoring and self-diagnosis. The following three functions are critical in the SMART KEY system.
  1. SMART KEY Device Input Problem.
  2. SMART KEY Unit Problem.
  3. SMART KEY Device Output Problem.
  4. SMART KEY Unit Input Problem: Switch Diagnosis
  5. SMART KEY Unit Problem: Communication Diagnosis
  6. SMART KEY Unit Output Problem: Antenna and Switch Diagnosis
  7. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector on the lower panel of the driver's side airbag, then turn on the GDS power.
  8. Select the vehicle model, then select the SMART KEY system.
  9. Select "SMART KEY Device".
  10. After turning the IG on, select "Current Data".
  11. You can view the status of each switch on the scan tool after connecting the "Current Data" process.
    Display Description
FL Switch SW ON: The driver's door handle button is on.
FR Switch SW ON: The auxiliary door handle button is on.
Trunk Open SW ON: The trunk lid button is on.
Gear Position P ON: The shift lever is in the P position.
IGN 1 ON: The IGN switch is in the IG position.
ACC ON: The IGN switch is in the ACC position.
Brake SW ON: The brake switch is on.
  12. The communication diagnosis checks that all linked components operate normally.
  13. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the lower panel of the driver's side crash pad.
  14. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "DTC".
  15. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the lower panel of the driver's side crash pad.
  16. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "Active Test".
  17. Place the smart key near the corresponding antenna and operate it using the GDS.
  18. If the smart key LED blinks, the smart key is normal.
  19. If the smart key LED does not blink, check the smart key battery voltage.
  20. Antenna Activation
    A. INTERIOR Antenna 1
    B. INTERIOR Antenna 2
    C. Trunk Antenna
    D. BUMPER / Trunk Antenna
    E. DRV_DR Antenna
    F. AST_DR Antenna
  21. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the lower panel of the driver's side crash pad.
  22. Select "Antenna Status Check".
  23. After turning the IG switch ON, select "Antenna Status Check".
  24. Place the smart key near the corresponding antenna and operate it using the GDS.
  25. If the smart key operates normally, the corresponding antenna, the smart key (transmission and reception) and the external receiver are normal.
  26. Antenna Status
    A. INTERIOR Antenna 1
    B. INTERIOR Antenna 2
    C. BUMPER / Trunk Antenna
    D. DRV_DR Antenna
    E. AST_DR Antenna
  27. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the lower panel of the driver's side crash pad.
  28. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "KEY FOB STATUS INFO".
  29. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the lower panel of the driver's side crash pad.
  30. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "SMK STATUS INFO".
  31. Connect the GDS cable to the data link connector (DLC) on the lower panel of the driver's side crash pad.
  32. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "Neutralization Mode".
Therefore, the following three diagnoses will be the main troubleshooting process. Switch Diagnosis, GDS Communication Diagnosis (Self-Diagnosis), Antenna Operation Diagnosis. Check Antenna Status, Check FOB Status, Check Smart Key Status, Check Neutralization Status.
