Front Drive Shaft - Removal

FRONT DRIVE SHAFT - COMPONENTS
REMOVAL 1. Raise the vehicle and remove the front wheel.
2. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the drive shaft nut from the wheel hub.
3. Drain the oil from the transaxle.

4. Using a plastic hammer, separate the drive shaft from the wheel hub.
5. Pull the wheel hub outward from the vehicle and separate the drive shaft from it.

6. Insert a pry bar between the transaxle case and the drive shaft CV joint housing, then disconnect the drive shaft from the transaxle.
1. Be careful when disconnecting the drive shaft with a pry bar. Do not damage the transaxle case or the shaft CV joint.
2. To prevent damage to the oil seal, do not insert the pry bar too deeply (maximum 7 mm).
3. Do not pull the drive shaft out with excessive force. This may damage the internal parts of the Birfield (BJ) or Tripod (TJ) CV joint (boot tear or bearing damage).
7. Remove the drive shaft from the transaxle.
1. Use a special plug to close the transaxle opening to prevent dirt and foreign matter from entering.
2. Hold the drive shaft securely.
3. Always replace the retainer ring after disconnecting the drive shaft from the transaxle.
