Driver Assistance System

Malfunction and Limitations of the Function

Malfunction of the Function

If the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist or other similar feature does not operate properly, the "Check Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist" warning message will appear in the cluster and the system will turn off automatically. We recommend having the feature inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Function Disabled

The rear view camera is used as a pedestrian detection sensor. If the camera lens is covered with foreign materials, such as snow or rain, it may adversely affect the camera's operation, and the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate normally. Always keep the camera lens clean.

The rear ultrasonic sensors are located inside the rear bumper to detect objects in the rear area. If the sensors are covered with foreign matter, such as snow or rain, this may adversely affect the performance of the parking distance warning (PDW) system and the rear collision-avoidance system may not operate normally. Always keep the rear bumper clean.

A warning message "Rear Camera or Parking Sensor Error or Blocked" will appear on the cluster if the following situations occur:

-- The rear view camera is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or rain, etc.
-- Severe weather conditions, such as heavy snow, heavy rain, etc.

If this occurs, a collision may occur while parking in reverse. The Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may turn off or may not operate properly. Check whether the rear view camera and the rear ultrasonic sensors are clean.

Limitations of the Function

Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not brake or warn the driver even if there are pedestrians or objects under the following circumstances:

  • Any non-genuine equipment or accessory is installed.
  • Your vehicle is unstable due to an accident or other reasons.
  • The height of the bumper or the installation of the rear ultrasonic sensor has been changed.
  • The rear view camera or rear ultrasonic sensor(s) is damaged.
  • The rear view camera or rear ultrasonic sensor(s) is covered with foreign matter, such as snow, mud, etc.
  • The rear view camera is blocked by a light source or severe weather, such as heavy rain, fog, snow, etc.
  • The surroundings are very bright or very dark.
  • The outside temperature is very high or very low.
  • The wind is strong (above 12 mph (20 km/h)) or blowing perpendicular to the rear bumper.
  • Objects producing excessive noise, such as vehicle horns, loud motorcycle engines, or truck air brakes, are near your vehicle.
  • An ultrasonic sensor of a similar frequency is near your vehicle.
  • There is a difference in ground clearance between the vehicle and the pedestrian.
  • The image of the pedestrian in the rear view camera cannot be distinguished from the background.
  • The pedestrian is located at the rear edge of the vehicle.
  • The pedestrian is not standing upright.
  • The pedestrian is either too low or too high for the system to detect.
  • A pedestrian or cyclist wears clothing that easily blends into the background, making it difficult to detect.
  • The pedestrian is wearing clothing that does not reflect ultrasonic waves well.
  • The size, thickness, height, or shape of the object does not reflect ultrasonic waves well (e.g., pole, bush, curb, cart, edge of a wall, etc.).
  • The pedestrian or object is moving.
  • The pedestrian or object is very close to the rear of the vehicle.
  • A wall is behind the pedestrian or object.
  • The object is not located at the rear center of your vehicle.
  • The object is not parallel to the rear bumper.
  • The road is slippery or sloped.
  • The driver reverses the vehicle immediately after shifting to R (Reverse).
  • The driver accelerates or passes a vehicle.

Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may warn the driver or assist with braking unnecessarily, even if there are no pedestrians or objects under the following circumstances:

  • Any non-genuine equipment or accessory is installed.
  • Your vehicle is unstable due to an accident or other reasons.
  • The height of the bumper or the installation of the rear ultrasonic sensor has been changed.
  • The height of your vehicle is lowered or raised due to heavy loads, incorrect tire pressure, etc.
  • The rear view camera or rear ultrasonic sensor(s) is covered with foreign matter, such as snow, mud, etc.
  • A pattern on the road is mistaken for a pedestrian.
  • Reflection of a shadow or light on the ground.
  • Pedestrians or objects are around the vehicle's path.
  • Objects producing excessive noise, such as vehicle horns, loud motorcycle engines, or truck air brakes, are near your vehicle.
  • Your vehicle is reversing toward a narrow passage or parking space.
  • Your vehicle is reversing toward an uneven road surface, such as a dirt road, gravel, bumps, slopes, etc.
  • A trailer or vehicle is positioned behind your vehicle.
  • An ultrasonic sensor of a similar frequency is near your vehicle.
