Operating Conditions
If "Active Assist" or "Warning Only" is set in the Settings menu, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system will be in standby when the following conditions are met:
-- Rear door is closed
-- Transmission is shifted to R (Reverse)
-- Vehicle speed is below 6 mph (10 km/h)
-- System components, such as the rear view camera and rear ultrasonic sensors, are normal
Warning Only
- If the feature detects a risk of collision with a pedestrian or object, the system will warn the driver with an audible warning, steering wheel vibration, and a warning message on the cluster. When the rear view monitor is operating, a warning will appear on the infotainment system screen.
- If "Warning Only" is selected, braking assistance will not be provided.
- The warning will turn off when the transmission is shifted to P (Park), N (Neutral), or D (Drive).
Active Assist
- If the feature detects a risk of collision with a pedestrian or object, the system will warn the driver with an audible warning, steering wheel vibration, and a warning message on the cluster. When the rear view monitor is operating, a warning will appear on the infotainment system screen.
- If the feature detects an unavoidable collision with a pedestrian or object behind the vehicle, the system will assist with braking. The driver should be aware that brake assistance ends within 2 seconds. The driver must immediately press the brake pedal and check the surroundings of the vehicle.
- Brake control is canceled when:
-- Transmission is shifted to P (Park) or D (Drive).
-- Driver presses the brake pedal with sufficient force.
-- Brake assistance operates for approximately 2 seconds. - The warning will turn off when:
-- Driver shifts the transmission to P (Park), N (Neutral), or D (Drive). - Brake control may not operate properly depending on the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) status. The warning will only occur when:
-- The ESC (Electronic Stability Control) warning light is illuminated
-- ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is operating another function
WARNING
- The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may malfunction or may operate unnecessarily depending on road conditions and surroundings.
- Always exercise extreme caution while driving. The driver is responsible for controlling the brakes for safe driving.
- Always pay attention to the road and road conditions while driving, and check whether a warning is present.
CAUTION
- Playing the vehicle audio system at a high volume may prevent passengers from hearing the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist warning sounds.
- A noise may be heard when sudden braking occurs to avoid a collision.
- If another warning sound, such as the unbelted seat belt chime, has already been generated, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist warning may not sound.
- The performance of the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may vary under certain conditions. If the vehicle speed exceeds 2 mph (4 km/h), the system will provide collision-avoidance assistance only when pedestrians are detected. Always look around and pay attention when backing up your vehicle.
Information
The feature may detect a pedestrian or object when:
-- A pedestrian is standing behind the vehicle
