Always set the parking brake before leaving the vehicle. To apply:
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
Pull the parking brake lever up as far as possible.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, do not use the parking brake while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This may damage the brake system and cause an accident.

To release:
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
While holding the release button (1), pull the parking brake lever up slightly, then lower the parking brake lever (2).
WARNING
- Whenever leaving the vehicle or parking, always come to a complete stop and keep the brake pedal depressed. Move the shift lever to P, then apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position.
- Vehicles with the parking brake not fully engaged may roll unintentionally and cause injury to yourself or others.
- NEVER allow anyone unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the parking brake. If the parking brake is released unintentionally, serious injury may occur.
- Release the parking brake only when you are seated in the vehicle with your foot firmly on the brake pedal.
NOTICE
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal with the parking brake applied. If you depress the accelerator pedal with the parking brake applied, a warning will sound. Damage may result to the parking brake.
- Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and lead to premature wear or damage to brake components. Make sure the parking brake is released and the brake warning light is off before driving.
To check the parking brake warning light, place the ignition switch in the ON position (do not start the engine).
This indicator illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the ignition switch in the START or ON position. Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the brake system warning light is off.
If the parking brake warning light remains on after the parking brake is released with the engine running, there may be a malfunction in the brake system. Immediate attention is required.
If possible, stop driving the vehicle immediately. If this is not possible, use extreme caution when operating the vehicle and continue driving only until you can reach a safe location.
