Emergency Towing

■ Front

■ Rear
If towing is required, we recommend having it performed by an authorized HYUNDAI repairer or a commercial towing service.
If a towing service is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be temporarily towed by a cable or chain attached to the emergency tow hook at the front (or rear) of the vehicle.
Use extreme caution when towing the vehicle with a strap or chain. The driver must remain in the vehicle to steer it and apply the brakes.
Towing in this manner should only be performed on paved roads for a short distance and at low speeds. Also, the wheels, axles, powertrain, steering, and brakes must be in good condition.
Always observe these emergency towing precautions:
- Place the ignition key in the ACC position so that the steering wheel is not locked.
- Shift the transmission lever to N (Neutral).
- Release the parking brake.
- Press the brake pedal harder than usual, as braking efficiency will be reduced.
- More effort will be required to turn the steering wheel because the power steering system will be disabled.
- Use a vehicle heavier than your own to tow your vehicle.
- The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other frequently.
- Before emergency towing, check that the hook is not broken or damaged.
- Securely attach the tow strap or chain to the hook.
- Do not jerk the hook. Apply steady, even force.

- Use a towing cable or chain no longer than 5 m (16 ft). Attach a white or red cloth (approximately 30 cm (12 in) wide) to the middle of the cable or chain for better visibility.
- Move carefully so the tow strap or chain remains taut during towing.
- Before towing, check the automatic transmission/dual clutch transmission for fluid leaks under the vehicle. If the automatic transmission has a fluid leak, a flatbed tow truck must be used.
CAUTION
To avoid damage to your vehicle and vehicle components when towing:
- Always pull straight when using tow hooks. Do not pull from the side or at a vertical angle.
- Do not use the tow hooks to pull the vehicle out of mud, sand, or other conditions from which the vehicle cannot be driven out under its own power.
- Limit vehicle speed to 15 km/h and tow less than 1 mile (1.5 km) to avoid serious damage to the automatic transmission.
